Caring For Your Lingerie is Simple...

Never machine dry lingerie. Your lingerie fabrics and lace can easily be damaged, ripped or torn if you machine wash them or use the dryer...

Lingerie should preferably be hand washed very gently in cold water. If you opt for the washing machine, then it is recommended that you use the gentle cycle, cold water and a mild detergent. If possible and for extra protection, place your lingerie in a netted garment bag, attach hooks and eyes to avoid tangling, zip zippers, tie ribbons, and button buttons. Also, if you are washing more than one item, be sure to separate the colours (dark with dark, light with light).

There are several different detergents that are strictly for lingerie care such as Forever New, otherwise any mild one would do. Woolite is an example of a mild detergent. Most importantly Never ever use bleach on your intimate apparel, and when drying your garments it is best to hang them out in the fresh air or lay them down flat on a surface and let them dry. Never machine dry lingerie. Your lingerie fabrics and lace can easily be damaged, ripped or torn if you machine wash them or use the dryer. Handle them with care and they will last a long time.

Little Tips That Help A Lot

  • Please follow the manufacturer's care recommendations.
  • Strong all-purpose detergents contain brightening and bleaching agents. They should be used only for white washes to avoid running in coloured fabrics.
  • At low temperatures liquid detergents for delicates dissolve better than powder, which avoids clogging up and hardening fine fibres.
  • Use mild detergents for all coloured items.
  • The use of fabric softeners is not required for the care of the soft and smooth fabrics.
  • Washing delicate fabrics (e.g. lace) in the delicates cycle is particularly recommended.
  • The use of washing bags prevents damage to items of clothing through contact with other clothing (e.g. through zips) – this reduces the mechanical stress on the bra underwiring and prevents it from working loose.
  • Pre-treat badly soiled items with a specialist product or soak.
  • If possible, wash out bloodstains immediately with cold water.
  • Please wash swimwear thoroughly after each use with detergent, otherwise salt and chlorinated water, sunscreens, skin oils and sweat could damage the fibres.
  • Whites and coloured should be washed separately.
  • Detergents should be measured out according to the level of soiling.
  • Do not wring out lingerie. Instead, soak items in a sink with cold water and detergent, gently squeeze suds through items, and rinse with more cold water. Then blot items with a towel and lie flat to dry.

PVC Care

Hand wash your PVC clothes in lukewarm water with a very small amount of liquid detergent (flakes can stick to the PVC), making sure you wash inside and outside of the PVC clothing. Rinse inside and out thoroughly in cool water until all soap has been removed.

Turn the PVC clothes inside out and hang to drip-dry. When the polyurethane inside is dry, turn it right way round & allow PVC outside to dry. Never put it in the dryer or use heat to speed up the drying process as heat can melt the PVC and the fumes from burning or smoking PVC are dangerous. As long as the PVC clothing isn't soiled many people will just freshen the polyester inside out with a product similar to Fabreeze and wipe the PVC outside with a damp sponge.

Non PVC Friendly Substances

Be careful not to get any organic solvents near your PVC clothing or it will certainly mean the end for your brand new outfit of PVC lingerie, a PVC dress, or PVC boots as the shape of your PVC clothes will be distorted with acetone.

Then there is the obvious point about not drawing on your PVC lingerie with a permanent maker or getting nail polish (or remover) on your PVC dress.

Shining Your PVC Clothing

The fabric usually used for PVC clothes is polyurethane-coated polyester. This PVC fabric is more resistant to wear and tear than rubber, and PVC clothing does not require the use of any shining products. However you can polish your PVC clothing if desired with silicone spray.

Storage Of Your PVC Clothing

Different coloured PVC garments, especially white, should be stored separately from each other, otherwise staining may occur. PVC clothing and PVC lingerie is best stored hanging in a garment bag away from other clothing.

Mouldy lingerie - Shannon's tip of the week

http://www.abc.net.au/brisbane/stories/s1571683.htm

Presenter: Richard Fidler

You'd think that, as the official Queen of Clean, Shannon Lush would have heard just about every possible position for stains and mould.

It would seems there are some queries that are still able to surprise her, as was the case with Brad from Toowoomba, who was keen to find out how to remove mould spots from lightly coloured lingerie.

Shannon recommends putting 1kg of coarse salt into a bucket of warm water, and soak the items in that mixture for a good 10-15 minutes. Then hang them on the line to dry - they will be all salty and crusty - just brush the salt off, and the mould will come with it. Then wash the garments by hand.

Shannon recommends washing delicate lingerie in shampoo, preferably unscented shampoo.

She also suggests that buying your lady-friend new lingerie might be a romantic solution to the problem of mould spots on lacy smalls.

How To Care For Lingerie

By LingerieDiva

Fine lingerie is an investment that can last - while not a lifetime - at least for a long tim.

By caring for your lingerie properly, you will extend its life and enjoy it for many years to come.

Always check the label sewn into your lingerie.

Manufacturers understand their product and how to care for it. The label is always right. If the label indicates dry clean only, please take this advice seriously. Machine or hand washing a dry clean only garment can ruin it.

If you have removed the label from your garment follow these general guidelines:

Most lingerie may be hand washed in cold water using a mild detergent (such as Ivory Snow). Be sure to rinse completely. Always drip dry lingerie or dry on a flat towel. Never put lingerie in the dryer. You may use gentle steaming to remove wrinkles.

LingerieDiva recommends that you wash your lingerie in a lingerie wash bag. These bags ensure your fine lingerie does not become twisted and stretched in the wash. You can purchase wash bags from most lingerie and drug stores.

Caring for Silk - Special Instructions

Silk lingerie is strong but very delicate - so extra care must be taken when washing it. Use only a mild soap or silk wash. Never use detergent on silk. Soak the lingerie in warm water for about five minutes. Agitate gently, but do not twist it. Rinse well using cold water (you may add a teaspoon of vinegar to the rinse to remove all traces of soap). Roll the linger in a towel and lay flat to dry. Iron while slightly damp or you can hang the lingerie in a steamy bathroom to remove wrinkles.

Silk Don'ts

* Don't expose silk lingerie to direct sunlight as it will fade
* Don't attempt to clean a spot on silk lingerie with water
* Don't spay perfume on silk
